Terms of Use

Effective September 15, 2026 · Kalman Software LLC

The short version: on Mac, iPhone, and iPad you buy from Apple, one purchase covers all three, and refunds go through Apple. On Windows you can try the whole app for seven days, buy a perpetual licence through Stripe, and request a full refund within 30 days. Your documents stay on your device. Excise PDF reports what it inspected; it does not certify a document or give legal advice.

Who you are buying from

Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Apple is the seller on the App Store transaction: it takes the payment, handles tax, and issues the receipt. Kalman Software LLC (Colorado, USA) is the developer.

The Apple apps are licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's Standard End User Licence Agreement for Licensed Applications, which applies to every app whose developer does not supply its own. We do not supply a separate EULA for the Apple apps. Where Apple's agreement and this page differ about that licence, Apple's agreement controls.

Windows. Excise PDF for Windows is made and licensed by Kalman Software LLC. Stripe is the merchant of record for Windows purchases: Stripe takes the payment and handles applicable tax. Kalman Software provides the licence and support.

What one Apple purchase covers

Excise PDF is a Universal Purchase: the Mac app and the iPhone/iPad app are the same product, so buying it once entitles you to it on all three, on devices signed in to your Apple Account under Apple's usual terms (including Family Sharing, where you have enabled it). It does not include the Windows app.

Updates are delivered by the App Store. The Apple apps do not expire, phone home, or perform a network licence check.

Apple price and refunds

The price is the one shown on the App Store listing for your storefront, and Apple sets what that is locally and when it changes. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue, reverse, or see a purchase.

Windows

Your licence

A Windows purchase grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual licence to install and use Excise PDF for Windows on computers you own or control. The licence itself never expires. You may not share, publish, resell, or sublicense the key; redistribute or bundle the app; deliberately avoid the trial or licence check; or reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app except where applicable law permits it.

The same key works with the direct installer and Microsoft Store build. It does not unlock the Apple apps.

Twelve months of updates

Your licence includes every release we publish in the twelve months after purchase. Those versions remain yours permanently. When the update period ends, the app keeps working and no feature locks. Nothing renews automatically.

An optional update pass can add another twelve months. Its price is shown before you choose to buy it. Renewing early does not lose days; renewing after a lapse does not include releases published during the gap.

The seven-day trial

You may use the complete Windows app for seven days with no card and no account. The period begins when you first redact a document, not when you install or open the app. A trial run performs the same redaction and checking work as a licensed run.

When the trial ends, Excise PDF stops writing new redacted copies. You can still open documents, review matches, read existing receipts and help, and enter a licence key.

How the key is checked

The app verifies your key on your computer against a public key built into it. There is no activation server, account, or computer identifier. A key can be entered on a computer that is offline.

Uninstalling the direct copy leaves its local licence and trial data in place. A Microsoft Store uninstall removes the app's data; after reinstalling, enter the key again.

Windows refunds

If Excise PDF for Windows is not right for you, reply to the licence email or write to hello@kalmansoftware.com within 30 days of purchase for a full refund to the original payment method. No explanation is required.

After a refund the key is no longer licensed to you. Offline verification means a key already entered on a computer may continue to work; continuing to use it after a refund breaks these terms.

What the app claims and what it does not

On every platform, Excise PDF edits a PDF's page content so that matched characters are removed rather than covered, removes the hidden-data categories you asked it to remove, writes a separate copy, and then reopens that copy and reports what it found in it. Everything it reports is a statement about one file, under the settings of that run.

  • It does not certify a document, and it does not describe a level of accuracy that the receipt did not measure. A pass means the checks it ran found nothing they were looking for. The receipt names those checks, along with anything it could not check.
  • It makes no claim that a redacted file cannot be recovered by any means. The claim is the specific one above.
  • It is not legal or compliance advice, and it does not know whether an exemption code you print is the correct one. Deciding what must be redacted in a given document, and whether a claimed exemption is right, remains yours.
  • Review the output. The receipt exists so that you can check the work yourself; reading it is part of using the app.

Your documents

The app processes documents on your device and never writes over your original file. We receive nothing about the documents you open. The Apple apps and Microsoft Store build make no network request of their own. The direct Windows app's optional update check sends nothing about a document or licence. See the privacy policy for the details.

Acceptable use

Use the app lawfully. Do not use it to destroy or conceal evidence you are required to preserve, or to alter a document in a way you are not entitled to alter. You are responsible for what you publish or file.

Warranty disclaimer

The app is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it is free of defects or that any particular document will be processed successfully. A document it cannot process is one it refuses to process, and it says so.

Nothing here limits any consumer rights you have that cannot be waived under the law of the place you live.

Limits of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kalman Software LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or disclosure of information, arising out of your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it.

If these terms change

We may update this page, for example when a feature changes what the app claims. Changes take effect when posted, and the effective date at the top moves with them. We will not retroactively reduce a Windows licence you already bought.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of Larimer County, Colorado are the venue for any dispute, again without limiting consumer rights that cannot be waived where you live.
