Excise PDF Privacy Policy

Your documents

Excise PDF does not collect, transmit, or store information about you or the documents you open. There is no account, cloud sync, usage analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or third-party tracking SDK. That is true on Windows, Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Processing happens on your device. The app writes a separate redacted copy and does not overwrite your original. Saved rules and temporary files also remain on your device.

Mac, iPhone, and iPad

The Apple apps have no network access. Their App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

Windows

The Windows app stores its licence key, the date of the first redaction that starts the trial, saved rules, update preference, and any local crash logs in its app-data folder on your computer. None of this is sent to Kalman Software.

If the app stops because of an unexpected error, it can write a local crash log. The log records when the error happened and where in the program. It does not include a file name, search term, or document text. The app keeps the ten most recent logs and sends none of them. You choose whether to attach one to an email to support.

The direct Windows update check

A copy installed from excisepdf.com asks excisepdf.com whether a newer version exists. This is the only network request the Windows app makes. It runs about once a day and never more often than every 20 hours. You can turn it off in Settings.

The request sends the app version, win32 for the operating system, whether this is the install's first successful check, and, on that first check only, a random value used to avoid counting a retry as another install. It sends no document, file name, search term, licence key, computer name, or user name. The app never downloads or installs an update by itself.

We keep daily counts by product, version, and operating system. A SHA-256 digest of the one-time random value is kept with that first-check count for up to 90 days. Cloudflare processes the IP address needed to deliver the request. A copy installed from the Microsoft Store makes no request of its own; Windows delivers its updates.

The Windows licence check

Your licence key is verified on your computer against a public key built into the app. There is no activation server, account, or computer identifier, and checking the key makes no network request.

Buying Excise PDF

Apple: Apple processes App Store purchases, payments, tax, and refunds. Kalman Software receives only the aggregate reporting Apple provides to developers.

Windows: Stripe is the merchant of record and handles payment and tax. Card details go to Stripe; Kalman Software does not receive or store a card number. We receive the name, email address, billing location, product, amount, and order reference needed to fulfil and support the purchase.

Our Cloudflare Worker creates the licence key. Resend receives the email address, name if provided, licence key, and renewal code needed to send the purchase email. The same key, product name, and customer name are available on the post-purchase page for 30 days, then deleted automatically.

The key itself contains the name and email address provided at checkout, the product, purchase date, order reference, and the date through which updates are included. It contains no computer identifier, and the app sends none of it anywhere.

Website and email

Cloudflare hosts this site and may process standard technical information such as IP addresses and browser information. We use cookieless aggregate analytics and do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

If you email us, we keep your address and message to answer and support you.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising. Information is provided only to services needed to run the website, process purchases, deliver licences, and distribute the apps, or when legally required.

Your choices

• Your documents remain under your control because they stay on your device.
• In a direct Windows copy, you can turn the update check off in Settings.
• Uninstalling a direct Windows copy leaves its local app-data folder in place so your licence and trial survive a reinstall. Deleting that folder removes them.
• You may email us to ask what personal information we hold, obtain a copy, or request correction or deletion, subject to purchase records we must retain.

Changes

If our data practices change, we will update this page and its effective date.
